Our group in Northern Ireland have show really innovative ways of making their communites incredible. Incredbile Edible Cloughmills, started in 2011, and offers a whole host of learning opportunitities for all ages, including cooking sessions of simple breads, jams and chutneys, to wine making, beer making, cooking on a budget, and cooking with veggies. They also offer sessions in schools encouraging pupils to eat more fruit through making 'funny face pancakes' and a full range of growing activities including growing under cover, in pots etc. In this way they hope to 'vegucate' residents young and old.
Forefront of the group, and Sustainability Officer for the local council, Declan Donnelly said: "We wanted to reconnect people with each other, their community and the natural environment using the language of food. We believe everyone should have the right to access safe, healthy and affordable food, locally and we want to rediscover all the lost skills and arts surrounding food. Food should be a celebration, not something we access 24 hours a day."
It is managed by Cloughmills Community Action Team, a community development organization operating in Cloughmills, Co Antrim since 1999.
